In person, its easy to see why both men and women like Robbie Williams. He has that cheeky humour that makes you giggle (for the girls) and he'll chat about soccer all day (for the boys!) And theres a glint of danger in his green eyes, matched by a smirk thats difficult to resist. This is the bad boy we all want to tame!
He's also incredibly successful. From his days in Take Thar, to multi-platinum albums, duets with 'our Kylie' and 'our Nicole' and sell out tours around the globe - one of which, of course, he is about to bring Down Under, starting in Perth on Nov 30th...
On the face of it, at 32, Rob has it all, but in truth its not all that rosy - he's been unlucky in love (his exes include Rachel Hunter, Nicole Appleton and Geri Halliwell, to name a few). So these days he' single all the way and says he finds it easier not to have a girlfriend, adding, "I'm too young to be monogamous. I cant keep it in my pants. I'm in bed with a beautiful woman and I can see another one on the telly and I want her. I cant help it!"
His issues dont all lie in his trousers. Robbie also has to cope with the nightmare of depression, which he says is the result of cocaine and ecstasy abuse in the mid 1990's. He is cursed with an addictive personality, and battles with a well-documented drug and alcohol problem. He admits, "I'm one of those unfortunate people. My relationships suffer with everybody around me when I get off my face. And I suffer feelings of shame and guilt. I know I'm a much better and healthier and happier person when I'm not reaching for the nether world of reckless abandon. "
With all these issues, you'd think Robbie might be best to leave the world of rock and roll behind, but despite recent reports to the contrary, he has no plans to hang up his mic, though he has said he might give up touring. So, Aussie ticket holders should make the most of him!
"To be honest with you, I could see a future where I never tour, because its not an aspect of the job I enjoy", he admits. "I enjoy doing interviews to promote an album...and going from country try to country in three-week stints, doing television shows for 10 minutes and then leaving. But doing a tour is a huge commitment. Its a full year, the people have bought tickets and they want me for no less then two hours a n night on stage." "My gift, if you like, is making it look simple, but I'm f***ed at the end of every show. You find yourself patting yourself on the back if you ad-lib something funny, but you also kick yourself in your own nuts if you forget the lyrics or sing off-key, or you're struggling for something to say in between songs. I dont want to limit my options by saying I'll never tour again - that would be ridiculous - but I'd be quite happy not to!"
Despite his reservations, Robbie is all fired up over his new album, Rudebox. "I still havent lost the excitement of making a record," he says. "I'm addicted to it. In fact, I'm going to be making two next year."
In this extract from Kyle and Jackie O's interview with Robbie on 2Day FM, we find out more about the man who gives himself a five in the bedroom( and has actually measured his penis!)

Do you think you'll ever marry?
I think that I'll probably make a lifelong commitment to somebody. I dont know if that'll be marriage, as you know it...walking down the aisle and churches and all that business. To be honest, I wanted to go out with somebody for so long to see what love was like, for years and years and years, and then the last two years I've actually gone, "It all looks like a pain in the arse." To be honest with you, you look at relationships, and seldom does it seem the happy medium, where everybody's enjoying themselves and lifes great. To be honest with you, I'd rather just have a shag and then everybody wins!
Out of ten, how would you rate yourself in bed?
Out of ten? Well, it takes two to tango, because there are two people involved. There are two people that make it a ten! I couldn't give it an average.
Have you ever measured your penis?"
Yes.
Are you going to divulge what it measured in at? In millimetres?
In (Italian) lira I am huge!. I'm average, apparently. Jut above average.
Are you into the skinny female or do you like a bot of meat?
I absolutely cant stand the skinny female. TV, magazines....everybody is pushing for thinner, thinner, thinner, but it seems like the only people who like thin women are fashion designers. Its so awful for them, you know, to have to put that "I must be stick-thin thing" on themselves. Especially when real men like something to...

What have you had to say 'no' to when you really wanted to say 'yes', other than sex and addictive substances?
Erm, well apart from that, theres not much. The last thing I said 'no' to last night that I really wanted to say 'yes' to was some kind of cheesecake, because I'm trying to stay off the chocolate so that I look good for the people in Australia.
You love soccer and you always have a game of five-a-side on tour- is it true that you must be challenged and not allowed to win?
[Joking...] Yeah, I do ask for a game of five-a-side football and I do tell them that they must tackle me and not let me win. To be honest with you, you know...the footballs more important than the tour, and if I got injured and had to cancel the tour, I wouldn't be that bothered. For me, I'm traveling around the world playing football and these shows get in the way! [Laughs]

Dai suoi primi passi nel mondo dello spettacolo con i Take That, ai pluripremiati album , ai duetti con Kylie MInogue o Nicole Kidman ai suoi "tutti esauriti" tour mondiali - l'ultimo dei quali, sta cominciando la sua tappa australiana partendo da Perth.
Robbie, giunto all'età di 32 anni, sembra possedere tutto ciò che si può desiderare ma la verità non è così rosea - è stato sfortunato in amore, ma nella verità la relativa non tutta che ottimistico - è stato sfortunato in amore (tra le sue ex può vantare nomi come Rachel Hunter, Nicole Appleton e Geri Halliwell).
Così attualmente è single e ammette che per lui è molto più semplice non avere una fidanzata, e aggiunge “Io sono troppo giovane per essere monogamo. non riesco proprio a tenerlo dentro ai calzoni! Magari sono a letto con una bellissima donna, ne vedo un'altra in tv e non posso fare a meno di desiderarla. Proprio non resisto!„
Ma i suoi problemi non finiscono tutti nei suoi pantaloni. Robbie deve anche fare fronte all'incubo della depressione, che dice è il risultato del suo abuso di cocaina e di abuso di ecstasy a metà degli anni 90. Ammette, “io sono uno di quelle persone sfortunate. I miei rapporti interpersonali del fatto che tutti gli occhi mi sono puntati contro.. E soffro anche di vergogna e sensi di colpa. So che sono molto più meglio e più sano e più felice quando non mi lascio andare alla sregolatezza.„
Con tutti questi problemi pensereste che per Robbie la cosa migliore sia abbandonare il mondo dello spettacolo ma nonostante alcune voci affermassero tale progetto Robbie non ha nessuna intenzione di appendere il microfono al chiodo, benchè abbia affermato che potrebbe non andare più in tour. "Ad essere onesto con te , potrei vedere un futuro senza tour perchè è una parte del mio lavoro che non mi piace molto. " - ammette - " Mi piace fare interviste e promuovere album ... e viaggiare di paese in paese in 3 settimane fare show televisivi di 10 minuti e poi andarmene. Ma fare un tour è una impegno enorme. E' un intero anno, la gente compra i miei biglietti e mi vogliono per non meno di 2 ore sul palco la sera." " Il mio regalo, se vi piace, è di farlo sembrare facile, ma sono distrutto alla fine di ogni show. Ti sembra di non essere stato convincente quando provi un improvvisazione divertente, ti prenderesti a calci quando ti dimentichi i testi delle canzoni o ti imbarazzi per qualcosa che dici nel mezzo di una canzone. Sarebbe ridicolo affermare che non farò più tour ma mi piacerebbe che fosse così'!" Nonostante la sua riservatezza , Robbie è molto eccitato riguardo il suo nuovo album Rudebox. " Non ho ancora perso l'eccitazione di registrare un album" dice "Ne sono dipendente. Infatti lo farò x i prossimi 2 anni"
In questi estratti dell' intervista di Kylie e Jackie O con Robbie su 2dayFM, troviamo molto di più su l'uomo che si da cinque di voto in camera da letto ( e ha veramente misurato il suo pene).

Pensi che ti sposerai mai?
Penso che probabilmente mi impegnerò con qualcuno per la vita. Non sò se sarà un matrimonio come lo conoscete voi.. .con la camminata lungo la navata, la chiesa e tutto il resto. Ad essere sincero, per anni ho cercato di uscire con qualcuno così a lungo da farmi conoscere l'amore, e negli ultimi due anni è successo.Ad essere onesto con te, si è sempre in cerca di una relazione e raramente assomiglia a quel tipo di felicità media dove oguno si diverte e la vita è meravigliosa.
Da 0 a 10, come ti giudichi a letto?
da 0 a 10? Ci sono due persone coinvolte, entrambe lo portano a 10!!! Non posso fare una media.
Hai mai misurato il tuo pene?
Sì.
Stai per divulgare quanto misura? In millimetri?
In lire italiane sono strepitoso! Sono nella media apparentemente. Appena sopra la media.

Tu ami il calcio e giochi sempre a calcetto qundo sei in tour. E' vero che hai chiesto di non essere favoreggiato e che non ti lasciassero vincere?
Si è vero, gli ho chiesto di non farmi vincere e di farmi pure fallo!
Ad essere sincero per me il calcio è molto più importante che il tour, non mi sarebbe scocciato se mi fossi infortunato giocando e avessi dovuto di conseguenza cancellare il tour. Per me è come se stessi girando il mondo giocando a calcio e questi shows sono solo di contorno.

Robbie's over the moon

Watch Robbie perform at the MTV Latin Music Awards...
Last month Robbie was raising hell at mtv Latin Awards - and now you can see what he got up to, only at www.robbiewilliams.com.
Robbie picked up the award for Best International Pop Artist, and was so over the moon at winning he dropped his pants in approval. No-one seemed to mind though! Now, for a limited period only, you can see his performance of Rock DJ from the awards ceremony in Mexico City in October. If you're an Inner Sanctum subscriber you can also watch exclusive footage of Robbie also performing Rudebox on the night, and the final "reveal" of course.

Guarda l'esibizione di Robbie agli Mtv Latin Musuc Awards...

Robbie Heads Down Under

Robbie's sell-out Aussie tour kicks off next week...
The wait is almost over, Australia. Next week Robbie's Close Encounters 2006 tour finally hits Aussie shores for nine mind-blowing live shows.
The tour, wich takes in dates in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, has already borken all box office records and is the biggest the land Down Under has ever seen. When tickets were first released in the summer, the first Sydney and Melbourne shows sold out in just 30 minutes.
By the time Robbie has completed the Antipodean leg of the tour, he will played to almost half a million people wich will bring his total Close Encounters 2006 tour audience to a colossal 3,5 million!
His Brisbane date is the first music show to be held at the newly refurbished Suncorp Stadium since it re-opened in 2003, where he'll play to a total of 100,000 fans over 2 nights.
The Australian press has also been buzzing with rumors that Kylie could join Robbie onstage for his final Melburn gig, the last date on the whole Close Encounters 2006 Tour. The pop queen's own Showgirl tour finishes the night before in Melbourne, and Robbie has hinted that he'd like to reunite with Kylie, after their 2002 hit duet Kids.
"Maybe we should get together and re-create pop history," Robbie recently told the herald Sun.. "Let's see what happens. It is a possibility. There's strategic security moves to be made, whole teams meeting, reharsals. But I love Kylie, I fancy her and maybe something will happen." Robbie sbarca in Australia

L'attesa è quasi finita. La prossima settimana il Close Encouters Tour 2006 atterrerà in Australia per 9 date esplosive.
Il tour, che tocchera le maggiori citta come Perth, Adelaide, Sidney, Brisbane, e Melbourne è gia sold out da molto tempo ed è il piu grande tour di tutti i tempi! A Sindey e Melbourne i biglietti sono andati sold out in 30 minuti. Alla fine di questa serie di concerti australiani il Close Encouters Tour avrà toccato quota 3.56 milioni di persone!
La stampa locale già da tempo rumoreggia che forse Kylie Minogue potrebbe fare la sua comparsa on stage con Robbie per l'ultima data a Melbourne duettando la famosissima canzone Kids. "Forse potremmo ricreare un po di storia del pop " dice Rob al riguardo, Mi piace Kylie, e se tutto andra bene forse si fara! staremo a vedere...ci sono ancora molte cose da sistemare."

PET SHOP BOYS will bring in the new year by having a Highland Fling with ROBBIE WILLIAMS. NEIL TENNANT and CHRIS LOWE are headlining the famous New Year’s Eve celebrations in Edinburgh.
And the whisky-fuelled revellers are in line for a late Christmas present with a guest appearance from the Pets’ pop pal Robbie.
He is lined up to perform She’s Madonna with the electropop legends at the Hogmanay bash, as they call it up north.
The Pets used their knob-twiddling skills on the ode to Madge, which features on Rob’s latest album Rudebox. I reckon there couldn’t be a better ticket in the country to see in 2007 with a bang. A source said: “Robbie, Neil and Chris have become close pals over the last 12 months.
“They performed together earlier in the year for a radio show and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
It will be one hell of a party up in Edinburgh.
Robbie is up for doing at least one number but if things are going well he could end up doing more.” Robbie is off the booze but the Pet Shop Boys are well known for enjoying a proper knees-up.Their live shows are always a massive spectacle and the New Year do won’t be any different.I was there the last time Robbie performed with Neil and Chris. In May they played a special gig for Radio 2 in the Mermaid Theatre in London — and it was brilliant. The December gig is billed as The Concert In The Gardens at Edinburgh’s Royal Bank Street Hogmanay Party. It takes place in Edinburgh City Centre on December 31 and usually attracts about 300,000 bladdered punters. The PSB’s live show is currently getting rave reviews in the USA and they are promising to play all the classic tracks from their 25-year career.
She’s Madonna will be released as a joint Robbie/Pet Shop Boys single in January and will coincides with the start of the Boys’ full UK tour the same month.

I Pet Shpp boys concluderanno il 2006 insieme a Robbie Williams. NEIL TENNANT e CHRIS LOWE saranno gli ospiti d'eccezione al tradizionale concerto di capodanno di Edimburgo e sarà proprio l'amico e collaboratore Robbie Williams ad affiancarli sul palco. La canzone in scaletta al momento è She's madonna, brano che Williams ha composto in collaborazione con la leggendaria band electropop. I loro shows sono solitamente grandiosi e quello di capodanno non farà eccezione. L'ultima volta che Robbie e i Pet Shop Boys si sono esibiti insieme hanno regalato al pubblico uno spettacolo fantastico. Il concerto nella capitale scozzese si terrà nei giardini del Royal Bank Street Hogmanay Part, in pieno centro, ogni anno l'evento raggruppa circa 300.000 persone.
Gli spettacoli live dei Pet Shop Boys hanno ricevuto fin'ora commenti entusiaste dagli stati uniti e i membri del gruppo hanno assicurato che canteranno anche grandi successi del passato.

Robbie's fanbase second biggest in Uk

We knew Robbie has a lot of fans, but a new survey says our favourite icon has more than any other pop star in the Uk.
In a new survey by hotel chain Travelodge, Robbie recorded the biggest fanbase for any other artist in the UK, beating stiff competition from U2, former bandmates Take That and rockers The Killers.
In fact, Robbie came out in second palce overall, only beaten to the top spot by Manchester United. Liverpool FC, Arsenal and JK Rowling joined them in the top 5.
Good to know your love for Robbie grows and grows.

Short Circuit

Budding directors, take note. You've still got time to make your Rudebox short film, and potentially have your film broadcast on Channel 4.
The pioneering channel has thrown its weight behind the Rudebox Shorts project - the groundbreaking set of films commissioned by Robbie and independent film community Shooting People to accompany tracks from Rudebox.
The seven already completed shorts are now set for broadcast on Channel 4 the week beginning December 4, and of course, right here Robbie's Inner Sanctum.
And now, your film has chance to join them. You've still time to complete a Rudebox short of your own, check out www.robbiewilliams.com/rudeboxshorts to see some of the entrants since the competition was launched last month.
The deadline for entrants is December 4 so getting filming.
All entries will be judged by a highly respected panel of industry experts including Robbie, Lord Puttnam, Jonathan Ross and C4 Head of Music Jules Oldroyd. The winning short will win £7500, possible inclusion on a full length DVD and the chance to be aired on C4 with the other seven short.

Double Platinum Rudebox Conquers Europe

Robbie's new album sets a record...

When Rudebox snagged a No.1 in the UK last week, in its first week of release, we knew it was because you couldn't wait to get your hands on it. But it wasn't just a homegrown success.
By shooting to the top spots around Europe's charts, ad shifting over two million copies in less than two weeks, Rudebox became the fastest-selling platinum-awarded album this year.
The international music industry body, the IFPI, awarded Robbie's Rudebox album a double Platinum Europe award this week, acknowledging it's two-million-plus sales.
Despite receiving mixed reviews for its astonishing new direction, sales of Rudebox prove that you've given it the thumbs up. And with new single Lovelight about to drop, Rudebox looks set to hug the upper reaches of the charts for a long time yet.

Robbie's rude and ready

Robbie Williams conquers demons and bullies with his success, writes Cameron Adams.

It's a bizarre moment. Robbie Williams is at home in LA, doing a phone interview. We're talking about Take That, his former boy band who reunited -- minus their most famous former member -- earlier this year.
They have a new single, Patience.
Williams says he hasn't heard it."The only way I can get it is by illegally downloading it," he says.
And so he is introduced to the wonders of www.youtube.com "Is it on there?" Williams says, excitedly, moving over to his computer. "Hang 0n (types). Take . . . That . . . How do you spell patience?"
A quick spelling lesson later, the sounds of Take That, circa 2006, blare out. Williams pauses. "Ah, I think I'll take a look at this after we've talked. It's a bit too weird, really."
Oddly, in 2006, Williams and Take That are both releasing albums and touring.
Williams didn't take part in the re-formation tour -- he had the slight matter of his own record-breaking, global stadium jaunt -- but filmed a verse of the band's hit Could It Be Magic, which was shown at the shows. There were offers to return to the studio for the comeback album, but Williams says he didn't have time.
After years of slagging off former bandmate Gary Barlow, the pair have reconciled. "It was slightly tense, slightly relaxing," Williams says of meeting Barlow after so long. "There were mixed feelings, mixed emotions . . . the way I see it, it's like a school reunion. It might be fun for the first hour or so, but it doesn't mean you want to come back the next day and sit through Geography, French and Religious Education. The reunion might be nice, but I don't really want to do the work."
Take That has been a constant love/hate theme in Williams' solo career.
"When I was 17, 18, 19, 20, I wanted to be Liam Gallagher," he says. "I wanted to be something other than in a boy band. I thought being in a boy band was terrible, horrendous, shallow and all that business. We worked our balls off. But I see Take That for what it was.
"I'm proud of Take That, proud of the songs, of what we did. I've made my peace with it."
Part of that peace comes on Williams' new album Rudebox. One track, The 90s, deals with his private joining -- and very public departure from -- the boy band. In the song, Barlow is labelled "a cock" and meetings with Versace and Diana are detailed. He even recalls how his father talked him into staying with the band in the early days, when Williams was planning to be an entertainer at holiday camps. "My dad said to me, 'How would you feel if they were No.1 and you were in a camp in Wales?' Because of that I stayed. Sound advice. Everything in that song happened."
There are large gaps in the song where lyrics regarding Williams' hatred of Take That's manager, Nigel Martin-Smith, have been removed for legal reasons. The subject has fuelled some of Williams' most vitriolic lyrics in the past. However some of the insinuations and physical threats in The 90s -- whose lyrics were leaked to a newspaper before the album's release -- caused the manager to decide enough was enough. The singer removed the words before a court case.
At this point Williams bites his tongue.
"It's such a shame the full lyric isn't on there," he says.
"The 90s as a song is probably my best work. But at the moment I can't say much about anything. I'm getting very stern looks even saying this. But it'd be really bad if someone uploaded it and put the whole song on there. I bet people could find it somewhere."
After years of slagging off everyone, it seems the law has hit Williams where it hurts.
He says of his world tour: "I've been working my testicles off. I've had the hardest year since joining Take That, when we were worked as if we were in a sweat shop." He pauses. "I probably can't say that. I need to justify everything I say now. I'd need to go and find that sweatshop they built for us in Manchester and make some Nikes."
He also grows quiet when asked about another new song, She's Madonna.
The chorus, "I love you baby, but face it, she's Madonna", is reportedly what Guy Ritchie told his former lover, Tania Strecker (who's also an ex of Williams) when he left her for his famous wife.
"I'm not allowed to say anything. I don't want to get into trouble. I really want to get away from mentioning anything about what the song's about or Madonna."
Williams got another lesson about the power of the British press when he released his hip hop throwback Rudebox as the first single from the album of the same name.
British newspaper The Sun called it "the worst song ever made". The song didn't make No.1 in Britain and divided Williams' fans.
"I think unfortunately people had their minds made up for them," Williams says. "I noticed it when I got to the UK on this tour. I do Rudebox in the show everywhere else and the place goes mental. I got to Scotland and did Rudebox and the crowd physically took a step back. I was made to feel as welcome as a ginger stepchild."
Rudebox is the album Williams has always wanted to make but never had the confidence.
Williams obsesses over his sales around the world. Rudebox debuted at No.1 in Britain (only Elvis has had more No.1 albums as a male solo act) but the sales were lower than usual. It hasn't escaped his attention.
"Don't get me wrong, the number of sales I've got would send anyone else over the moon. But it's less than half what I normally do. I've had an amazing run. If the tide has turned, then I'll have to deal with that. But it's making me scratch my beard and go, 'OK, what's next?'
"With this album, if it were purely on music alone, it should be my biggest-selling album. But with the music industry it's hardly ever about the standard of music."
He refuses to accept Rudebox is a commercial risk for an artist who has filled stadiums with big ballads and rock anthems; none of either are on Rudebox, which instead visits electropop, hip hop, dance and 1980s covers.
"What I am guilty of with Rudebox as the first single is me thinking it was an absolute crushing worldwide No.1," Williams says. "I am guilty of that and I'm wrong. I still love it as much as when I thought it was a crushing worldwide No.1 single, but I'm wrong."
The interview starts to resemble a therapy session when Williams reveals he obsessively reads bad reviews of his work and that a bad review "ruins" an album for him.
"That's part of me being mental as a human being. I'm searching for the negative and it's so counterproductive because it can ruin your album for you. That song becomes the s--- song that was reviewed by that c--- instead of the joyous piece of work you enjoyed creating until the opinion was formed. It's f---ing stupid."
Williams points out that Rudebox has drawn his best reviews from some unlikely sources, but though it's a creative high, he will judge its success by its sales rather than its artistic merit.
"I'm competitive. It'd be like saying to an athlete going for a gold medal at the Olympics, 'You're not going to judge yourself on whether you get a medal, are you?' The tangible thing about my success is my success. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.
"People might think I'm just making records for a mass market. Yeah, I am. I am that mass market. I'm the boy who listened to the Top 40 on a Sunday and taped it and wanted to make songs like that. I have a populist taste. I watch Saturday-night TV, I listen to the radio. I find the joy in mindless light entertainment. What's heavy entertainment?"
Radiohead, perhaps?
"I'm light entertainment, that's what I do. I could never be Radiohead. I don't have the intellect, I don't think in the same way. It doesn't mean I have less passion about what I do and what I want to convey."
However, if Rudebox fails, don't expect Williams to put his tail between his legs and make Angels 2.
"Absolutely not. I'll probably go more different, if you want to call it, promo the f--- out of it and batter people into submission. I've got another Swing (When You're Winning) album coming out next. I enjoyed doing that, it's part of my contract as well, but at the same time I'm going to write another album and I can guarantee it won't sound like Intensive Care, Escapology, or, for that matter, Rudebox.
"I'd rather give up than write Come Undone again. It's just not me. If my record sales go down it doesn't mean I'm going to pander to the general public by doing that. My imitation of what I think is a good song has been my truth. I'd rather not make records if I had to go back and recover old ground."
Imitation is a strange word to use when describing your own music, but it's one that Williams finds helpful to explain what he does."With my albums I've just being doing an impression of what I think a big song or a good song should sound like. The reason I'm here is because people enjoy what I do."
The public enjoys seeing him live, but it's Williams' least favourite part of the job.
The record-breaking Close Encounters world tour will be his last "for a long time". He's already looking forward to the final leg in Australia, "where I'll select members of the audience to sample".
Though he turns on the frontman charm, he also admits it's all an act, albeit a good one.
"Who I am on stage is not who I am in real life. I'm kind of at odds with that person. The persona I've created for on-stage is someone and something that's served me really well. People liked it, they came back and back until there were stadiums full all around the world.
"To reach an audience in a stadium you have to make grand gestures. To be honest, I'd much rather stand there with my hands on the microphone and sing the song with a blank expression, but that's not what people have come to expect. I'm basically doing an impression of what I think a rock star or a pop star is.
"I was watching The Rocky Horror Show last night. That scene where Frank N. Furter comes down in the lift . . . I watched that whole number and realised I've based most of my performance around Dr Frank N. Furter. The walk, the singing, the facial expressions -- it's uncanny. I got scared watching it. I thought, 'That's me!' "
Though he's proud he'll play to a record-breaking three million people on his 2006 world tour, he finds it hard to accept compliments.
"The reason most people are on stage is to get the bullies. I must say being bullied fuels a good half of my career. That's why there's been eight studio albums in 10 years. I feel tremendously bullied by sociopathic nasty people."
Has he beat the bullies?
"Not yet. You never beat anything. You beat it by accepting it for what it is. I'm not mature enough to accept it yet. One day I will be."

Ah è lì?" chiede Williams, emozionato, spostandosi verso il suo computer. "Aspetta in linea (scrive). Take . . . That . . . Come si scrive patience?"
Dopo una veloce lezione di spelling si sentono a tutto volume le note dei Take That.
Williams stoppa. "Ah, penso che gli darà un'occhiata dopo che abbiamo parlato. E' un po' troppo strano, davvero."
Curiosamente nel 2006 sia Williams che i Take That lanciano un album e fanno un tour.
Williams non ha preso parte al loro tour della reunion -- aveva in ballo la piccola faccenda della sua propria scampagnata globale da record negli stadi -- ma ha filmato una strofa della hit Could It Be Magic, che è stata mostrata durante gli show.
Ci sono state offerte per farlo tornare in studio per il loro album del ritorno, ma Williams dice che non aveva tempo.
Dopo anni passati a sparlare del suo ex compagno Gary Barlow i due si sono riconciliati.
"E' stato un po' teso e un po' rilassante" dice Williams a proposito dell'incontro con Barlow dopo così tanto tempo.
"Ci sono stati sentimenti contrastanti, emozioni contrastanti . . . per come la vedo, era come una riunione di ex compagni di scuola. Potrebbe essere divertente per le prime ore o giù di lì, ma non vuol dire che vuoi tornare il giorno dopo e sedere in mezzo alla geografia, al francese e alla religione. La riunione sarebbe carina, ma non voglio faret tutto il lavoro."
I Take That sono stati un costante amore/odio nella carriera solista di Williams.
"Quando avevo 17, 18, 19, 20 anni volevo essere Liam Gallagher" spiega. "Volevo essere ovunque tranne che in una boyband. Pensavo che fare parte di una boyband fosse terribile, orrendo, superficiale, e così via. Ci siamo fatti il culo. Ma guardo ai Take That per quello che erano.
"Sono orgoglioso dei Take That, orgoglioso delle canzoni, di quello che abbiamo fatto. Ho fatto la pace con questo."
Una parte di quella pace arriva nel nuovo album di Williams, Rudebox. Una traccia, The 90's, affronta il tema della sua privata entrata -- e molto pubblica uscita -- dalla boyband.
Nella canzone Barlow viene etichettato come "un cazzone" e vengono elencati incontri con Versace e Diana. Ricorda perfino il modo in cui gli parlò suo padre circa il rimanere con la band durante i primi tempi, quando Williams progettava di diventare un intrattenitore nei villaggi vacanze.
"Mio padre mi disse: 'Come ti sentiresti se loro fossero al numero 1 e tu fossi invece in un villaggio in Galles?' Per questo sono rimasto. Ottimo consiglio. Tutto quello che c'è in quella canzone è successo."
Ci sono grandi vuoti nella canzone dove per motivi legali sono state rimosse le parole riguardanti l'odiato manager dei Take That, Nigel Martin-Smith. Il soggetto ha suscitato alcuni dei testi più al vetriolo di Williams nel passato. Tuttavia alcune delle insinuazioni e delle minacce fisiche in The 90's -- il quale testo era stato diffuso ad un giornale prima dell'uscita dell'album -- hanno fatto sì che il manager decidesse che era abbastanza. Il cantante ha rimosso le parole prima che diventasse un caso legale.
A questo punto Williams si morde la lingua.
"E' così un peccato che non ci sia il testo completo lì" dice.
"The 90's come canzone è probabilmente il mio miglior lavoro. Ma al momento non posso dire troppo su niente. Adesso sembrerò molto severo anche a dire questo. Ma sarebbe brutto se qualcuno la uploadasse e mettesse la canzone intera là. Scommetto che la gente la potrebbe trovare da qualche parte."
Dopo anni a sparlare di tutti sembra che la legge abbia colpito Williams dove fa male.
Dice del suo tour mondiale: "Mi sono fatto il culo. Ho passato l'anno più duro da quando sono entrato nei Take That, quando lavoravamo così tanto come se fossimo in un'azienda che sfrutta la manodopera."
Si blocca. "Probabilmente non posso dire questo. Adesso devo giustificare tutto quello che dico. Avrei bisogno di andare a ricercare quell'azienda che avevano costruito per noi a Manchester e fare alcune Nike."
E' molto riservato anche quando gli viene chiesto di un'altra canzone nuova, She's Madonna.
Il ritornello "I love you baby, but face it, she's Madonna" è, stando a quanto si dice, ciò che Guy Ritchie disse alla sua ex fidanzata Tania Strecker (la quale è anche una ex di Williams) quando la lasciò per la sua attuale moglie famosa.
"Non posso dire niente. Non voglio finire nei guai. Voglio davvero stare lontano dal menzionare qualsiasi cosa circa quello di cui parla la canzone o di Madonna.
Williams ha ricevuto un'altra lezione sul potere della stampa britannica quando ha fatto uscire la canzone hip-hop "Rudebox" come primo singolo dal suo nuovo album. Il tabloid inglese "The Sun" l'ha definita "la peggior canzone mai realizzata". La canzone non ha raggiunto il numero uno della classifica inglese e ha diviso i fan di Robbie. "Penso che la gente sia stata condizionata - dice Williams - L'ho notato durante il mio tour: quando facevo Rudebox negli show fuori dal mio paese il pubblico impazziva; una volta arrivato in Scozia, invece, quando facevo Rudebox il pubblico, letteralmente e fisicamente, faceva un passo indietro. Mi sono sentito davvero mal'accetto."
Rudebox è l'album che Williams aveva sempre desiderato fare ma non ne aveva mai avuto il coraggio.
Williams è ossessionato dalle vendite dell'album in tutto il mondo. Rudebox ha debuttato al No.1 in Gran-Bretagna (soltanto Elvis ha avuto più album direttamente al No.1 come artista maschile) ma le vendite sono state comunque più basse del solito. Tutto ciò non è sfuggito all'attenzione di Robbie. “Non fraintendetemi, il numero di vendite che ho ottenuto farebbe impazzire di gioia chiunque. Ma è meno della metà di quello che ottengo di solito. Ne sono rimasto piuttosto stupito. Se il vento non è più a mio favore allora dovrò cominciare ad occuparmene. Mi metto qui, mi sfrego la barba e mi chiedo: "Cosa posso fare adesso?"
Robbie rifiuta di ammettere che Rudebox è un rischio dal punto di vista commerciale per un artista che ha riempito gli stadi di ballate e di canzoni rock; nessun di questi tipi di canzoni può essere trovato su Rudebox, che ha invece sonorità electropop, hip hop, dance e anni '80. “L'unica cosa di cui sono colpevole per quanto riguarda Rudebox come primo singolo è stato pensare che sarebbe diventata una No.1 in tutto il mondo" dice Williams
L'intervista comincia a prendere la sembianze di una seduta psicanalitica quando Williams rivela le recensioni negative dei suoi lavori e che una recensione negativa gli "rovina" un album.
"E' una parte di me che comincia a dare di matto. Ricerco le cose negative ed è così controproduttivo perchè ti può distruggere l'album. Quella canzone diventa luna canzone di m***a perchè era stata recensita in questo modo schifoso invece che un gioso prodotto del lavoro che hai adorato fare prima che qualcuno se ne uscisse fuori con questa opinione. . E' f*********e stupido".
Williams racconta che Rudebox ha ricevuto diverse recensioni positive anche da alcuni che normalmente gli sono ostili, ma nonostante molto creativo, egli comunque giudica il suo successo dalle vendite invece che dai meriti artistici.
"Sono competitivo. E' come dire ad un atleta che corre per la medaglia Olimpica "Non stai andando a giudicare te stesso su come prenderai la medaglia vero?" La cosa tangibile del mio successo e' il mio successo. Non penso ke sia necessariamente una brutta cosa. Le persone possono pensare che io faccia dischi solo per il grande mercato che hanno. Sono il ragazzo che ascoltava la Top 40la Domenica e la registrava e voleva fare una canzone come quelle. Ho un gusto popolare. Guardo la Tv il Sabato notte, ascolto la radio, mi piace l'intrattenimento leggero. Cos'è l'intrattenimento pesante?? I Radiohead forse? Sono un intrattenitore leggero,è quello che faccio. Non potrò mai essere i Radiohead, non ho l'intelletto, non la penso nel solito modo. Non vuol dire che abbia meno passione per quel che faccio e per quello che voglio trasmettere."
Comunque se Rudebox fallisse non aspettatevi che Williams metta la coda tra le gambe e faccia un "Angels2". Assolutamente no.
Ho un altro album Swing (When you are winning) in uscita. Mi diverto a farlo, è vero è parte del mio contratto, ma al tempo stesso scriverò un altro album e posso garantire che non avrà il sound di Intensive Care o Escapology o Rudebox. Preferirei smettere che scrivere un altra Come undone. E' solo che non sono io.
Se le vendite del mio album andranno male non importa. Il mio tentativo di imitare quello che io credo sia una buona canzone è stato la mia verità. Non farò dischi se dovrò tornare indietro e rifare vecchi successi." Imitazione è una strana parola da usare quando descrivi la tua musica ma è una parola in cui Williams trova l'aiuto per spiegare quel che farà.
"Con i miei album ho già dato l'idea di come dovrebbe essere o dovrebbe suonare una bella canzone. La ragione del perchè sono qua è perchè alla gente piace quello che faccio." Al pubblico piace vederlo live,ma questa è la parte meno preferita da Robbie Williams del suo lavoro.
Il suo tour mondiale "Close Encounters",che ha battuto tutti i record, sarà a suo dire l'ultimo per lungo tempo. Già è pronto per l'ultima parte che si svolgerà in Australia, “dove selezionerò alcuni membri del pubblico per le prove„.
Benchè possieda il fascino del frontman, ammette però che è tutta una finzione, anche se buona. “Chi sono sulla palco non è chi sono realmente. Sono quasi l'opposto di quella persona. Il personaggio che ho generato per il palco è qualcuno e qualcosa che mi è stata davvero utile. La gente lo ama, e torneranno a vederlo fino a che ci saranno stadi da riempire per tutto il mondo. “Per il pubblico di uno stadio bisogna fare gesti molto teatrali. Per essere sincero, preferirei starmene lì in piedi con le mani sul microfono e a cantare, ma non è quello che la gente è venuta a vedere. Sto semplicemente impersonando quello che penso una rock star sia.
“Stavo guardando"Il Rocky Horror Show" la notte scorsa. Quella scena dove Frank N. Furter scende giù con l'ascensore. Ho guardato quella scena per intero e realizzatodi aver basato la maggior parte delle mie performance sul personaggio di Frank N. Furter. La camminata, il canto, le espressioni facciali -- è stato spaventoso guardarlo.. Ho pensato, “Ma sono io!„
Benchè sia fiero di essersi esibito davanti a un totale tre milioni di persone durante tutto il suo tuor mondiale è per lui difficile accettare i complimenti. “Il motivo per cui la maggior parte della gente sale su un palco è per farsi sbeffeggiare. Devo dire essere sbeffeggiato è stato il carburante per buona metà della mia carriera. Ecco perché ci sono stati otto album in durante 10 anni. Mi sento sempre in balia di gente malvagia e sociopatica.„ Ha sconfitto questi demoni? “Non ancora. Nella vita certe cose non si sconfiggono mai compeltamente. Le si sconfiggono accettandole per cosa sono. Ma non sono ancora abbastanza maturo per accettarlo tutto ciò. Un giorno forse...„
